PBS Policy on 210 Animal Laboratory Projects

The Program in Biological Sciences has accommodated, and will continue to accommodate, the requests of students in the Biology 210 laboratories to perform alternative laboratory projects for those assignments that involve the use of animals and/or animal tissues. All students who have religious or ethical beliefs, or medical circumstances, that are incompatible with the performance of these projects, will be provided with alternative projects that do not involve the use of animals or animal tissues. No academic penalty will be incurred by any individual for performing an alternative project, or due to lack of attendance to laboratory classes on days when animals or animal tissues are studied. To the extent that it is possible, instructors will assign alternative projects that address the same concepts and issues that are addressed in the projects conducted by the rest of the class.
